Description
From: Poggio San Giorgio, Emilia-Romagna, Italy
Varietal: Sangiovese
Taste: The wine pours a deep ruby with garnet reflections. The nose is layered and focused, with aromas of black cherry, dried cranberry, balsamic herbs, and sweet tobacco, backed by cedar, iron, and forest floor nuances. On the palate, it is medium/ medium+ bodied with finely knit tannins and precise acidity. Flavors of dark red fruit and blood orange meld with notes of sage, anise, and savory spice, leading into a long, structured finish that echoes with minerality and restrained power.
Pairing: Brunello’s firm tannins, acidity, and earthy undertones make it an excellent companion for dishes with depth, umami, and some fat. It pairs classically with bistecca alla Fiorentina, slow-braised wild boar ragù over pappardelle, or roasted leg of lamb with garlic and anchovy.
About: Tenuta San Giorgio operates from the village of Poggio San Giorgio in the Colli Piacentini zone of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. A project that represents a modern take on regional heritage, Tenuta San Giorgio began producing wine in earnest with the 2017 vintage. The estate is owned by the Ferrari family—not to be confused with the Trentino-based sparkling wine house of the same name—and is currently led by Lodovico and his son Bernardo Ferrari.
