From: Burgundy, France
Varietal: Chardonnay
Taste: The 2019 Henri Latour Meursault "Les Vireuils" is a stunning white Burgundy from the Côte de Beaune region of France. This wine is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes, which are harvested from the Les Vireuils vineyard. The grapes are hand-harvested and vinified in stainless steel tanks, then aged in oak barrels for 12 months.
The result is a complex and elegant white wine with a light golden hue. On the nose, it has aromas of ripe apples, lemon zest, and white flowers. On the palate, it is full-bodied and creamy, with flavors of honey, citrus, stone fruit, and minerals. The finish is long and balanced, with a hint of oak.
Pairing: This wine pairs perfectly with a variety of dishes, from light salads to richer seafood dishes. For a light meal, try it with a simple salad of arugula, cherry tomatoes, and shaved Parmesan cheese. A classic Caesar salad or a twist with kale is just as wonderful for the same reasons. The bright acidity of the wine will cut through the richness of the cheese and the bitterness of the greens. For a heartier meal, try it with a grilled salmon fillet. The creamy texture of the wine will balance out the smoky flavor of the salmon and the sweetness of the stone fruit flavors will complement the fish.
For a unique pairing, try the 2019 Henri Latour Meursault Les Vireuils Blanc with a creamy lobster/crab/seared scallop risotto (see below for recipe). The creamy texture of the wine will pair nicely with the creamy texture of the risotto, while the citrus aromas will enhance the flavor of the dish. The long finish of the wine will also provide a nice contrast to the richness of the risotto. No matter what you pair it with, the 2019 Henri Latour Meursault Les Vireuils Blanc is sure to be a hit.
