Taste Block

Tasting Notes

The nose opens with dark cherry, black plum, and dried blackberry, followed by notes of leather, black pepper, and a subtle smoky edge tied to the volcanic soils. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with firm, linear tannins and bright acidity driving flavors of sour cherry, black currant, and savory spice. Earthy undertones and a slight iron-like minerality add depth.

Pairing Block

Food Pairing

Aglianico pairs best with dishes that complement its structure and acidity. Think in terms of proteins with some richness, slow-cooked preparations, and savory flavors rather than delicate textures. This wine pairs naturally with braised beef, lamb shoulder with herbs, or pork cooked with garlic and fennel. It also does well alongside grilled sausages, meatballs in tomato-based sauces, or hearty stews built on beans and aromatics.

About the Producer

D'Angelo Vini is based in Rionero in Vulture, in northern Basilicata, at the base of the extinct Monte Vulture volcano. The estate is one of the historic family producers of the area, with documented activity dating back to the late 1800’s, when the D’Angelo family began bottling wines from their own vineyards rather than selling fruit locally. Over multiple generations, the winery has remained family-run, with a consistent focus on Aglianico and the distinctive conditions of Vulture.
