From: Piedmont, Italy
Varietal: Nebbiolo
Taste: Great for everyday drinking with strawberry and cherry aromas that meld seamlessly with mirroring flavors, a classic structure, and a core of minerality that keep this wine fresh and delicious. Excellent clarity in the glass with notes of dried rose petals and earth providing an elegant perfume.
Pairing: This is a versatile bottle of wine that is easily paired with mushroom risotto/gnocchi/pasta/ravioli, roasted winter squash (even as a gratin!), anything with truffle, and in general, Italian dishes. We thought a twist on the classic bolognese would be a perfect way to spice up a weeknight dinner. Rigatoni with White Bolognese by Heidi da Empoli, adapted by Amanda Hesser is made without tomato, a variation you don’t see often in the US, but is super savory and delightful in its own right.
About. Marco Porello is the third generation of his family to produce wines in Roero. The family owns 15 hectares of vineyard land in total, all highly regarded locations in two of Roero’s twenty-three villages…the marine clay-based Mombirone in the village of Canale, and Tanone in Vezza d’Alba, which is a sandy, limestone-rich site. All of his wines are farmed naturally without the use of herbicides or pesticides, and Marco is working towards organic certification. Ca’ Gialla is the nickname of the house where Marco’s cellar is located.
