Region: Beneventano IGT
Varietal: Aglianico
Tasting Notes: Deep, ruby red color. A clear and complex Aglianico, with hints of cherry and red berries followed by vanilla with black tea and herbal aromatics. Elegant and warm, sapid and full bodied. Good length and persistence. This is fantastic value. Presented in a big heavyweight bottle too.
Food Pairing: Aglianico combines very well with roasted red meats and aged cheeses.
Also great with pizza and pasta dishes. For a fun Sunday snack try this Classic Cheese Fondue by Melissa Clark, with Bavarian-Style Soft Pretzel recipe from Zingerman's Bakehouse.
About: Tombacco is a long established family business in Veneto producing their own good value wines and blending and bottling other peoples wines in much the same way as the "negociants" of France do.
The 80 hectares (197 acres) of estate vineyards are all located within the Veneto region. A combination of silt, mineral-rich clay-based and stony soil types as well as various microclimates provide ideal terroir for the broad range of grape varieties found within the portfolio.
The flagship wine of the Tombacco collection is the Aglianico IGT Del Beneventano which is sourced from multiple vineyards throughout the Benevento province. After alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, it is aged in a combination of steel vats and oak tonneaus prior to bottling.
