Compañía de Vinos Telmo Rodriguezproduces wines across many regions ofSpain, fromMalagain the south toRiojain the north. Telmo Rodriguez himself is regarded as one of his country's leading winemakers.
The company was founded in 1994 as Compañía de Vinos de la Granja by Rodriguez and two other winemakers, to create aGarnachafrom old bush vineyards inNavarra. Over time the portfolio was greatly extended with various projects across the country.
In doing this the company has focused on native varieties, such asGodelloandMonastrell, grown in excellent sites. It has rescued neglected and abandoned vineyards in largely ignored areas, as was the case with the Molino RealMoscatelsfrom the mountains of Malaga and Pegaso, and Castilla y León VTGarnacha wines from slate-strewn hillside plots near the town of Cebreros in the province of Ávila.
This expansion led to other labels in more familiar areas, such as Matallana inRibera del Duero, and Lanzaga in Rioja. Gago inTorois well known to many fans of Spanish wine, and top examples of their respectiveDos are also made inAlicante,Cigales,RuedaandValdeorras.
All vineyards are farmed biodynamically and trained to bush vines in the traditional Spanish way. Replanting only uses massal selections from existing vineyard material. Wines are made usingnative yeasts.
