Varietal: Sangiovese Grosso

Taste and Critical Acclaim: In the glass, the wine presents a deep ruby hue with garnet reflections at the rim. The nose opens with precise aromas of red cherry, wild plum, dried rose, and blood orange peel, layered over nuances of leather, tobacco leaf, and damp earth. On the palate, it is full-bodied and tightly knit, with firm tannins and vibrant acidity framing flavors of sour cherry, pomegranate, black tea, and crushed herbs. Subtle oak tones of cedar, cocoa, and roasted spice emerge on the mid-palate without overshadowing the core of pure Sangiovese fruit. The finish is long and savory, marked by lingering notes of iron, dried thyme, and salty minerality, offering both structure and lift.

"Aromas of plum and cherry with some cedar and walnut that follow through to a full body with a dense, structured palate and powerful tannins. Very long and persistent. Muscular. Best ever. Drink after 2024." (12/2020)" 95 points James Suckling

About: Collemattoni is located just outside the town of Sant’Angelo in Colle, a hilltop frazione in the southern reaches of Montalcino. The estate is owned and operated by Marcello Bucci, a native of the area who has been gradually modernizing the winery while remaining deeply connected to its historical and environmental context. The name Collemattoni itself dates back to the 12th century, translating loosely to “hill of bricks,” a reference to the clay-rich soils that dominate the surrounding terrain and the region’s architectural past.
