From: Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy
Varietal: Sangiovese Grosso
Taste and Critical Acclaim: An incredibly pure expression of Brunello, with wild berries, bright and juicy, framed against a core of sweet spice, pipe tobacco and dried herbs. The already generous and pleasurable palate is open and enjoyable now and will improve with only a few years of cellar time.

Aromas of plum and cherry with some cedar and walnut that follow through to a full body with a dense, structured palate and powerful tannins. Very long and persistent. Muscular. Best ever. Drink after 2024." (12/2020)

"The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino from Collemattoni impresses with an expression of purity, showing wild strawberries with hints of green stems and nuances of sweet spice. It’s a soft and enveloping effort with a core of bright, juicy acids, which bring its red and black berry fruits to life. While youthfully dry and structured, this never loses momentum, tapering off to pretty inner florals. Only a few years of cellaring should bring this fully into focus. It’s a pleasure to taste. About. Created by Aldo Bucci in 1982, Collemattoni takes its name from a farmhouse, which dates to at least 1672, the year in which it is registered in the parish archives as a family home. Collemattoni is located on a hilltop on the south side of the municipal area of Montalcino, just a short distance from the village of Sant’Angelo in Colle at an altitude of 1,000 to 1,200 feet. The small estate produces two wines: Brunello and Rosso, combined with an extra virgin olive oil and a Grappa di Brunello. It was certified organic in 2011.
Vinification. Harvest is 100% destemmed with a soft pressing, fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures and pumping over for the first week of maceration. Skin-contact maceration for 20-25 days with rack and return technique (delestage). Aged in 32-hectoliter Slovenian Oak casks (foudre) for 30 months, then another 6 months in the bottle before release. Wine is slightly filtered before bottling.
