From: Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Côte des Blancs, Champagne, France
Varietal: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir
Taste: Pale salmon in the glass with fine, persistent bubbles. The nose opens with red currant, wild strawberry, and blood orange, followed by hints of crushed rose petals, white pepper, and chalk. On the palate, it is dry and precise, with flavors of raspberry skin, pomegranate, and grapefruit zest.
Critical Acclaim: "An amber-colored rosé with aromas of cherries, praline, dried flowers and some spiced plums. Gastronomic and flavorful, with a medium to full body and dry, spicy and smoky elements. Tight bubbles. 88% chardonnay from Mesnil, Avize and Oger, with 12% red wine pinot noir from Bouzy and Ambonnay, from the 2018 vintage. 7g/L dosage. Drink now.” 93 Points, James Suckling
"From the base vintage of 2019, the NV Champagne Brut Rosé is Chardonnay with the addition of 12% still red wine of Pinot Noir from Bouzy, Tours sur Marne, and Ambonnay. There are 8 grams per liter of dosage added. Light pink in color, the nose is savory with blood orange peel, quinine, and fresh peach, and the palate is dry, floral, and lightly saline. The Chardonnay drives the character of the wine with a focused structure and chalky texture. This would be a wonderful aperitif or to have with raw preparations such as sushi. Best after 2022." 92 points, Jeb Dunnuck, (July 2022)
"This elegant rosé is a pretty wild-salmon hue, with a hint of honey enmeshed with flavors of dried apricot, oyster shell and anise. Lightly juicy and appealing, with a refined finish. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Drink now." 91 points, Wine Spectator, (2023)
"A softly fruity but complex nose offers up wisps of cherry, raspberry and a markedly yeasty emphasis. The delicious, round and again rather fleshy flavors are supported by a relatively soft mousse yet there is much better depth on the nicely dry if not exactly crisp finish than is displayed by the NV Brut. Drink: 2023+." Allen Meadows, Burghound, 91 points (October 2023)
Pairing: This Champagne’s high acidity and bright red fruit profile make it versatile at the table. For pairings, look to dishes that offer freshness, texture, and a touch of salt or umami. Briny seafood, such as scallop crudo or shrimp with citrus vinaigrette, highlights the wine’s lift and minerality.
