From: Friuli Annia, Italy
Varietal: Malvasia
Tasting Notes: Aromas of honeysuckle and bright pear fuse with a distinct salinity on the nose. These flavors evolve on the wine's dry, effusive palate as it reveals notes of honeyed apricot, lemon zest, minerality, and touches of spice, buttressed by a brininess that keeps your mouth watering.
Pairing: This wine would shine alongside artichokes, a shellfish-based risotto, or any type of fish stew...something like this NYT recipe for Cioppino.
About. The Bortolusso winery is a family-run operation currently managed by Sergio and Clara, the son and daughter of the founder. Its 45 hectares of vineyards are located in Friuli Venezia Giulia, which lies in the Carlino district in Trentino-Alto Adige. Here, vineyards are planted right next to the brackish Laguna di Marano (lagoon), which infuses the resulting wines with a characteristic salinity. Bortolusso uses organic fertilizer and minimum pesticide treatments.
