Taste: The nose opens with vibrant red fruit—fresh strawberries, wild cherries, and redcurrants—layered with subtle earth, dried herbs, a touch of warm spice, and a distinct undercurrent of darker fruits and minerals. On the palate, it’s supple and medium-bodied, balancing ripe red and dark fruit tones with lifted acidity and fine, silky tannins. Notes of black cherry, cranberry, and a hint of clove lead to a clean, lightly savory finish that shows both freshness and finesse. Elegant yet approachable, it’ll keep improving throughout the evening.
Pairing: This wine’s bright acidity and gentle structure make it a versatile partner for food. It pairs naturally with roasted poultry, seared duck breast, or dishes featuring mushrooms and truffles, where its earthy undertones resonate beautifully. The wine’s fruit-driven core also complements lighter fare such as herb-roasted vegetables, salmon, or spinach and ricotta ravioli.
About: Maison Chanzy was founded by Daniel Chanzy in 1974 in Bouzeron, located in the northern part of the Côte Chalonnaise (just south of the Côte d’Or, north of the Maconnais) region of Burgundy. Chanzy envisioned Côte Chalonnaise wines that would rival the greatness of the Côte d’Or and invested heavily in vineyards there. We’re still waiting for that day, but these wines offer a glimpse at how great this oft overlooked part of Burgundy could be.
In 2013, a group of Burgundy wine lovers purchased Chanzy and have since added a second holding in Côte Chalonnaise and Côte de Beaune for a total of 163 acres planted. With full control of production from vineyard to bottling, Chanzy’s impressive range spans 40 appellations in 8 villages of Côte Chalonnaise and Côte d’Or.
