Taste: In the glass, the 2019 Brunello pours a deep garnet hue with brick-red edges. Aromatically, it opens with layers of dried cherry, crushed red currant, and fresh rosemary, alongside subtle notes of cedar, warm spice, and leather. The palate is full and firm, with tightly wound tannins and a core of red plum, orange peel, and anise. As it unfolds, savory tones of forest floor and tea leaf emerge. There’s a clean mineral edge through the mid-palate, finishing long and structured with dried herbs, tobacco, and fine-grained grip.

Pairing: Brunello’s structure, acidity, and depth make it a versatile red for bold, slow-cooked dishes and umami-rich elements. Begin by anchoring pairings with dishes that feature roasted game, mushroom-based sauces, or tomato-forward components. Classic Tuscan fare such as wild boar ragù with pappardelle or bistecca alla Fiorentina makes an excellent match for the wine’s tannic core. Braised beef cheeks with porcini and red wine reduction highlight the earthy spice tones in the wine.

About: Col di Lamo is based just outside the town of Montalcino, in southern Tuscany. The estate is run by Giovanna Neri, one of the few women to own and lead a winery in this part of Italy. With a degree in law and a strong creative streak, Giovanna also inherited her father’s love of wine and decided to carry on the family’s agricultural legacy. Since launching her label in the early 2000s, she has become one of the most sought-after producers in the region. Her unique touch is now supported by that of her daughter, Diletta, who works alongside her in the day-to-day operations. Together, their energy and focus have helped shape Col di Lamo into one of the most dynamic and refined wineries in the Montalcino area.
