Taste: Medium-deep golden in color with a subtle copper hue, the 2009 Blanc de Noirs opens with a rich, developed nose showing toasty, bready aromas like baked raspberry brioche layered with red apple, raw hazelnut, nougat, and smoke. Over a decade of lees aging has brought pronounced character, giving the palate its signature notes of brioche and toasted grain, along with a creamy, rounded mousse. Full-bodied and richly textured, it delivers orchard-fruit flavors while remaining bone dry, lifted by a fresh mineral backbone with subtle warm baking spice accents that carry through the long, robust finish. This vintage is perfect for those who want bold power and finesse from their champagnes.

Pairing: With its full-bodied structure, extended lees aging, and mineral-driven freshness, a vintage Blanc de Noirs like the 2009 pairs best with dishes that offer richness, depth, and savory complexity. In general, look for foods that can stand up to its boldness, complement its nutty and toasty character, and benefit from the wine’s ability to cut through richness, especially dishes with roasted, braised, or umami-driven elements.

About. Champagne R. Dumont & Fils is based in the village of Champignol-lez-Mondeville, in the southern Champagne region of the Aube, roughly 90 miles southeast of Reims and Épernay. The Dumont family’s connection to these hillsides spans more than two centuries, with records of vineyard ownership dating back to 1808. For much of that time, the family sold grapes rather than producing wine. That changed in the 1970s, when brothers Raphaël and Robert Dumont began making their own Champagne, founding the estate that still carries their initials.

Today, Bernard Dumont manages cellar operations alongside his cousin Pierre, who oversees the vineyards, and Bernard’s nephew, who has taken an active role in both farming and implementing biodynamic practices. The family works exclusively with their 22 hectares (about 54 acres) of estate vineyards, planted on the slopes of Champignol.
