2016 Vina Zorzal El Inquilino Rioja Rojo x 2 bottles. Red & black fruit such as raspberry, bing cherry, and blackcurrant. Gentle spices like sweet tobacco and clove round out the fruit, and a hint of leather is also present. Medium-bodied, soft tannins and aromas on the nose follow suit to the palate to a long finish.
2019 Duorum Tons de Duorum Red, Douro, Portugal The nose is dominated by a smattering of cool fruits: strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and black plum skin. All this gorgeous fruit blends beautifully with notable baking spice and spicy tones from barrel aging (as well as from the varietals themselves). Together, all of these qualities combine in the glass to equal a beautifully balanced wine - acidity plus soft and ripe tannins all tethered together on a stony, mineral core.
2019 Casale del Giglio Cesanese Lazio Rosso Intense aromas of marasca cherry, typical of late varieties, sweet pomegranate, and red plums, followed by spicy notes of white pepper, black pepper, and violet. The mouthfeel is soft, extremely pleasant, and focused on cherry and sweet pomegranate flavors with a smidge of savory notes that rounds out all that fruit alongside persistent, fine tannins and pronounced acidity. Perfect for enjoying a night in with a home-cooked (or take-out!) meal.
2015 Fattoria di Fubbiano Rosso delle Colline Lucchesi Light to medium-bodied and centered around red fruits (marasca cherry, red cherry, and baked strawberry), a pleasant spice note from age - a hint of mustard spice, toasted clove, and sweet tobacco, and a slight touch of mineral petrichor. The palate mirrors its aroma, and its acidity and bright tannins become more gentle with exposure to air or alongside food.
2021 Vignerons d'Estezargues Cuvee des Galets Cotes du Rhone Rouge
Aromas of just-ripened raspberries, blackberries, and plum skin with a touch of Mediterranean herbs, violet, and a pleasant hint of baking spice. On the palate, these flavors continue, and the wine is delightfully focused around its fruit, all while maintaining a light and mildly spicy body with rounded, silky tannins and a medium finish.
2021 Puy-Servain Calabre Taiac Rouge IGP Perigord Rich dark fruit, some warm spices, and smoke on the nose. Full-figured and bright merlot, flaunting chocolate-covered dark cherries, vanilla, leather, and blackberry on the palate. Beautiful balance and longevity.
