From: Loire Valley, France
Blend: 90% Chenin Blanc, 10% Chardonnay
Taste: Domaine les Clos Maurice, based in Saumur Champigny, comes from a centuries-old estate (since 1783) and has certifications in Organic and Biodynamic viticulture. An extended family history, commitment to quality and sustainability, and excellent raw materials combine to produce excellent wines. You’ll love the aromas of quince, citrus, peach, nectarine, white flower, chamomile, and brioche with a touch of dry honey. These flavors expand on the palate, where tiny bubbles enhance poached stone fruit over brioche toast and citrusy flavors that linger wonderfully toward a crisp, clean, elevated finish.
Pairing: As a pre-dinner drink, Crémant de Loire works well for parties and when served with fish, shellfish, and creamy French cheeses. More structured wines can be served with chicken in a cream sauce, with pasta, risotto, and curry. Some specific examples include serving this with smoked salmon blinis, curried prawns, falafel with mint and yogurt sauce, sweet and sour chicken/pork/tofu, and fried seafood served with chips, as a taco, or as an elevated meal pan-fried with white fish (like the recipe we’re sharing below).
