From: Niederösterreich, Kamptal (Lower Austria), Austria
Varietals: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay
Tasting Notes: This bubbly ushers you into your first sip with aromas of honeysuckle, poached pear, and cream with a hint of citrus to liven it up. The next thing you know, it has swept you up in its lustrously rich texture, with tart strawberry and blueberry flesh on the mid-palate. There’s a vinous quality to the mousse of bubbles, coupled with the satisfying lift of balanced acidity and dryness. The wine slowly dissipates from your tongue in a way that mirrors the foam of an ocean wave seeping back into the sand once it reaches the shore.
"Bründlmayer's NV Extra Brut Reserve, disgorged in April 2021 after almost four years on the lees, offers a very clear, intense but also subtle and elegant nose with smoky notes of ripe pears. Pure, fresh and intense, with fine oak flavors and delicate tannins, this is a dense but highly refined and refreshingly mineral Sekt with fresh lemon notes, a citric and a salty finish. This sparkling wine is in top shape and serves well as aperitif and as a partner for lighter dishes. Tasted from lot L 4349/07/17 in January 2022." –Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 93 points (December 2022)
Pairing: Sekt with food? And how! Serve at the beginning of a feast with amuse-bouches like oysters, tapas, shrimp, or even an array of cheeses. Daniel Gritzer’s Serious Eats recipe for Deep-Fried Potato Skins With Crème Fraîche and Smoked Salmon checks all the boxes for a great pairing here with a trifecta of fried potatoes, cream, and seafood.
About. “Nearly every wine, from the light Grüner Veltliner to the red wines and the sparkling wines, has the potential to be the best of that vintage in its category,” declares Peter Moser, editor and publisher of Falstaff Wine Guide, Austria’s most respected and comprehensive wine publication. Also named in 2009 by Wine & Spirits Magazine “the best Austrian winemaker of the last 25 years,” Willi Bründlmayer farms 90 hectares of Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, St. Laurent, Zweigelt, and Burgundian varieties from an impressive collection of grand cru vineyards around Langenlois. In 2016 Andreas Wickhoff MW joined the estate and as general manager works alongside Willi in all aspects.
