From: Mád, Hungary
Varietal: Furmint
Úrágya, means “God’s bed”. The vineyard sits in a dip between two extinct volcanoes to the west of Mád. Viewed from our village it is where we see the sun “go to sleep” every night. Our vines are on the western slope in the higher parts of the vineyard. The unique volcanic soils build the structure, backbone and minerality of this delicious dry wine. Maturation in oak barrels adds further complexity and roundness
Winemaking: After harvesting the Furmint grapes, whole bunches were pressed and fermented in 500 litre Zemplén (Hungarian) oak barrels. After fermentation, the wine was matured for 10 months in oak, 20% of which were new barrels.
Pairing: A nice companion to barbecued white meats, even some more serious veal and pork dishes.

About. The regal lands of Tokaj, where the first aszú wine was produced seemingly by chance due to an enemy-threatened harvest in the 1600s, have long been renowned for their unparalleled viticulture. It was this region that witnessed the first European vineyard classifications in 1700. The initiative of Prince Rakoczi II of Transylvania rated vineyards as either "first growth, second growth, or third growth," a classification system that Hungary still reveres today.
Royal Tokaji was the beacon of Tokaj's renaissance, established in 1990 post- communism. Renowned author Hugh Johnson and an assembly of visionaries spearheaded this initiative. Their shared ambition was simple yet monumental: resurrect and enshrine Hungary's wine legacy.
The regulations of Tokaj are clear and unwavering: only white grape varieties have the privilege of being planted. Royal Tokaji primarily cultivates Furmint, Hárslevelü, and Muscat de Lunel from this strict selection.
