Region: Burgenland, Austria
Varietal: 40% Gruner Veltliner, 35% Chardonnay & 25% Pinot Blanc
Tasting: Light vibrant yellow-green colors. Spicy and mineral, aromas of apricot, hints of roses and lime. Lemon and grapefruit on the palate, carried by fine acidity. Elegant, weightless, fresh, tangy and dry. Super versatile!
Pairing: Pairs deliciously with mildly spiced Thai dishes that use ginger, galangal, or lemongrass, richly flavored foods such fried chicken or schnitzel, as well as roast pork or veal with a rich creamy sauce. For a classic combination that will undoubtedly please try this Wiener Schnitzel by Kurt Gutenbrunner. SO GOOD!!!
About: Family owned, Höpler’s 50 hectares of prized vineyards are amongst the oldest geological sites in Burgenland and are located over 8km along the Leithaberg Hills on the NW shore of Lake Neusiedl.
The land is blessed with a range of different soils and a microclimate influenced by the lake that enables production of a broad selection of wines, all at a high quality.
The spread of the vineyards between the villages of Jois and Purbach allows the vines to benefit from the versatility of the Leithaberg soil which offer a mixture of clay, limestone, chalk, sand, silt, gravel and pre-historic rock.
The northwest region of Lake Neusiedl is quite different to its eastern shores both geologically and climatically. These vines benefit from the climatic influence of the lake, the reflection from the sun and the mists in the autumn, but also from the cooler winds that blow over the hills from the northwest and influence the diurnal temperature range.
