From: Rhone Valley, France
Blend: Grenache Blanc, Viognier, and Clairette
Taste: Notes of citrus blossom, fresh white flowers, a touch of honey and ripe pear meet a light touch of spice and mint. This is a medium to full-bodied white, with notes of bright pineapple and white flowers that will seduce you with its balance and mineral finish.
Pairing: Braised red cabbage with currants is a traditional French pairing. As is the pyramidal Cosne du Port Aubry goat cheese. I’d also enjoy it with cod brandade.
About. La Font du Loup is both a famous lieu-dit, within the commune of Courthézon, and the name of the natural spring (the fountain of the wolf) in the center of the estate. Legend has it that wolves from Mount Ventoux would stop to drink here.
Font du Loup has been in the Melia family since 1942 and is now run by the extremely charming Anne Charlotte Melia-Bachas with her husband Laurent and the help of consultant Philippe Cambie. Font du Loup has roughly 20 hectares (organically farmed), including holdings in the La Crau and Font du Loup vineyards, and is planted on mostly sandy soil with vines that reach 100 years old. It is located in one of the coolest appellation places with slow ripening of the grapes. The wines are made in an elegant, pure, pretty style and are as warm and inviting as the good Anne-Charlotte and Laurent.
