From: Burgundy, France
Varietal: Chardonnay
Tasting Notes: A yearly favorite, this understated Bourgogne Blanc completely over-delivers on the palate. This is mostly fruit from the family's Puligny Montrachet vineyards blended with a little fruit from St. Aubin. Bright but full-bodied and laden with savory chalk and mineral notes, lemon, white flower, baking spice and green apple. There's definitely a little bit of oak present, but that's a good thing! In this wine, it acts as a well-balanced bit of perfume and texture on the palate, which counteract the racy nature of its fruit.
Pairing: Go for anything buttery, creamy, or slightly cheesy. Sea bass, seared scallops, crab, lobster, or corn risotto works wonders too. And, if you're feeling like baked or roasted vegetables this season, go for all the seasonal squash available and you'll be in a great place sooner than later. With that last comment in mind, we're sharing a recipe for Winter Squash, Onion and Pine Nut Pizza by Tara Parker-Pope for a healthy but comfort-filled pairing.
