Description
From: Gura Vadului, Dealu Mare, Prahova, Romania
Varietal: Fetească Neagră, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Shiraz
Taste: In the glass, the wine shows a deep, inky ruby hue with violet reflections. Aromatically, the nose is dense and layered, offering ripe blackcurrant, blackberry, and plum, along with hints of dark chocolate, cigar box, and cracked pepper. On the palate, it is full-bodied and well-integrated, with polished tannins and a firm core of dark fruit. Subtle notes of espresso, graphite, and baking spice unfold on the mid-palate, supported by vibrant acidity and a mineral edge. The finish is long and structured, with lingering tones of cherry liqueur, cedar, and dried herbs.
Pairing: This wine’s depth and structure make it an ideal match for rich, protein-driven dishes and bold seasoning. Begin by pairing with grilled or braised meats—slow-cooked beef short ribs, rosemary lamb chops, or wild boar stew are all excellent fits. The wine’s dark fruit and spice components also complement earthy flavors, such as porcini mushroom risotto or roasted root vegetables with thyme and garlic.
About: Budureasca is located in the village of Gura Vadului, within Romania’s Dealu Mare DOC, one of the country’s most respected wine-growing regions. In Prahova County, this area benefits from its position along the 45th parallel, shared with Bordeaux and Piedmont. It is known for its warm continental climate, generous sunlight, and diverse hillside terroirs. While the region has been cultivated since Dacian times, the current estate was founded in 2007 with a clear focus on elevating Romania’s native and international varieties on the global stage.
