The estate is situated at the southernmost edge of Chianti Classico in the butterfly-shaped commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga, closest in proximity to Siena and rightfully referred to as ‘the most Senese Chianti Classico.’ Tenuta di Arceno has been a center for winemaking since the 16th century. Located near the fork of two rivers–the Ambra, which flows to the North, towards Florence; and the Ombrone, which flows to the South, towards Grosseto–this area was formerly the nexus of the Etruscan civilization. In honor of its history, the reference to “Arceno” comes from the Etruscan word archè, meaning "point of origin.”
Tasting Notes: The 2019 Chianti Classico displays aromas of black cherry, orange peel, and subtle notes of cedar. The entrance to the palate is bright and invigorating–as one would expect a Chianti Classico to be–then slowly softens; revealing flavors of red raspberries with the earthy signature of Sangiovese. The finish concludes with spice notes of white pepper with hints of mint and licorice.
"Very pretty Chianti Classico with a medium body, firm tannins, and a fresh finish. It’s medium to full-bodied with integrated tannins and a long, linear finish. Cool and well crafted. Drink or hold." –James Suckling (93 points)
Pairing: Classic pairings for this Chianti Classico include meat and tomato-based pasta dishes (like spaghetti bolognese or lasagna), pizza, salumi, or pecorino cheese.
