From: Rioja, Spain
Blend: 85% Tempranillo, 15% Graciano
Taste & Critical Acclaim: This gorgeous Spanish Rojo will please multiple palates. The combination of aging in French and American barrels makes this red immediately familiar in aroma and texture. A bouquet of red and black cherry and black currant open to tobacco, cedar, warm leather, vanilla, and clove with violet and Mediterranean herb highlights. The wine finishes cleanly with fine tannins, and the balance between fruit and oak is excellent.

Hazaña 2019 Viñas Viejas Red (Rioja)
This garnet-colored wine has aromas of blackberry, black currant and Mediterranean herbs. Fruit flavors open on the palate, notably cherry and blackberry, backed by notes of vanilla, clove and violet. It comes neatly wrapped in powdery tannins that disappear into a floral-laced finish. — Mike DeSimone
Pairing: Roasted or grilled meats or hearty vegetables are probably the easiest go-to’s with this wine. Of course, dishes that incorporate Chorizo are an excellent match. We love this wine with tostadas with chorizo, queso fundido with chorizo, pasta with chorizo, kale, chickpeas, and more— like the appetizer recipe we’re sharing below. Even better, this wine goes with just about any weeknight (or weekend) meal, like tapas, sliders, pizza, rice dishes, polenta, or gnocchi with mushrooms, but we recommend avoiding seafood.

Winemaker Notes. Named for the ancient, poetic tales of heroism, Hazaña is made in the classical style of Rioja. The fruit comes entirely from the vicinity of Logroño at 700 meters above sea level and on red clay and chalky limestone soils. A blend of Tempranillo with up to 15% Graciano, it is aged in French and American oak before release.
Hazana refers to the illustrious deeds and exploits of Spanish literary heroes such as Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar, who inspired the poem Cantar del Mio Cid. The philosophy behind these wines, their own present-day Hazañas, is simple: produce modern-styled wines of intense fruit and concentration without losing the hallmark personality of Rioja.
