From: Alsace, France
Varietal: 80% Sylvaner, 20% Pinot Blanc
Taste: Brilliant golden yellow robe. Mineral aromas, dry, white fleshed fruit such as green apple, white elderberry flowers, dill. Lively and fresh palate, dynamic, white pepper on the finish. This is a really pleasant wine that is absolutely ready to drink now, crisp and easy-drinking.
Pairing: I mean, it’s called ‘Crustacés’ so this is a perfect match up for all your crustacean-based meals. Mussels, crab, and shrimp in particular would be delicious. It would also be appropriate for lighter white fish preparations, seafood based pates, and smoked salmon or gravlax with dill. For vegetarian pairings, I’d lean into the herbal qualities of the wine and enjoy it with asparagus with dill sauce, or you can always enjoy it with a softer cheese like Camembert.
The Dopff and Irion families, whose origins can be traced to the vineyard as of the 16th century, have known, from one generation to the next, how to build upon their heritage: the vineyard and Château Riquewihr. Constructed in 1549, the Château was originally owed by the Princes of Wurtemberg, who ruled over the city and its region for 5 centuries. At present Riquewihr is dubbed “the pearl of Alsace”.
The ‘tradition’ line is produced with the grapes brought from 300 selected winegrowers. Immediate pressing. Fermentation in controlled temperatures (in order to keep the freshness). Storage on lees for four weeks and maturing for six months in tanks before bottling.
