Region: Friuli Colli Orientali DOC, Italy
Varietal: Tocai Friulano
Tasting Notes: This is a powerful wine with intense fruity and spicy aromas. A nose with ripe tropical fruits and preserved citrus, lemon zest, paprika and acacia honey. On the palate, it is structured with good acidity. The long finish has notes of almond and exotic fruit. Enjoy on its own or with a fresh white fish dish!
Pairing: This Friulano drinks beautifully with delicate white fish bathed in a buttery sauce, fatty fried chicken thighs, or for a vegetarian option try this amazing Flamiche Aux Poireaux (Leek Tart) by Patricia Wells. It is so rich and satisfying. A glass of the bright, fresh Specogna Leonardo Friulano provides a perfect balance.
About: “Everything started with Leonardo Specogna and his wife Alma in 1963 when, after residing in Switzerland as emigrants for some years, they returned to Friuli Venezia Giulia and bought a small plot of land on the hills of Rocca Bernarda in Corno di Rosazzo. That day the adventure in the world of wine begun. It continued with Graziano and his wife Anna Maria, who started improving the management techniques of the vineyards and of the winemaking, gradually expanding the vineyard surface. The third generation of Specogna winemakers Cristian (his wife Violetta) and Michele has now entered the company.” -winemaker
Cristian Specogna was on the list of 'The world's best 50 young winemakers 2021' by FoodDrink magazine. He and the family work tirelessly to produce the best expressions of the terroir where the vines reside.
