About the founder. Nils Erik Liedholm, (b. October 8th, 1922 - d. Cuccaro Montferrat, November 5th, 2007) was a Swedish football midfielder and coach. Il Barone (The Baron), as he is affectionately known in Italy, was renowned for being part of the Swedish "Gre-No-Li" trio of strikers along with Gunnar Gren and Gunnar Nordahl (from which the white wine they make at the estate and in your glass is named for) at A.C. Milan and the Swedish national team, with which he achieved notable success throughout his career. Liedholm was an intelligent offensive playmaker who was renowned for his excellent range of passing and precise crossing ability throughout his career, as well as his vision, tactical awareness, control, class, and his elegant style of play; he is regarded as one of Milan's and Sweden's greatest ever players, and considered one of the best players of the post-war era. As a coach, he was in charge of several teams in Italy, managing for nearly four decades, and was known for using a zonal marking system; he is regarded as one of the most successful managers in Italian football history. At the end of the 20th century Liedholm was voted the best Swedish player of the millennium by the readers of Sweden's largest newspaper, Aftonbladet.
In 1973 Nils Liedholm bought the Villa Boemia estate situated in Cuccaro Montferrat in the province of Alessandria. Situated on the hills of Montferrat, it was already enriched with Barbera and Grignolino grapes. Wine production started in 1977 with the intention of making wine only for the family. However, in the following years, seeing its quality and receiving requests in the market, new vineyards were planted; also new varieties that were different from the traditional ones of that area (Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc) were planted for the creation of new wines. In 1985 a new wine cellar was built for winemaking, storage and bottling of their wines, all according to the most modern technology. From that period up to 2015, his son Carlo Liedholm (b.1958) intervened to manage the Company.
