From: Sicily, Italy
Varietal: Nero d’Avola (Calabrese)
Tasting Notes: Ruby red in color. Its structure does not want to conquer with strength, but rather with elegance. A complex perfume with notes of cherries-in-spirit, red plum, blackberry and warm spices that are in harmony with one another. The boldest aromas are of cinnamon and clove. Notes of menthol amplify the freshness of the taste. It is soft, velvety, sapid and laced with the right amount of delicate tannin on the palate.
Pairing: The wine's body, deep color, and bold acidity.pairs well with red meats, roasts, game, salumi, aged cheeses.
The Nero d’Avola grapes grown for this wine come from an east-facing cru vineyard of Feud Montni that farmers named Lagnusa, which means lazy in Sicilian because of its low yields. Here at 1,969 feet, 35 year old vines grafted from native clones called Vrucura Nero d’Avola are planted in a vertical trellis system upon clay and sand soils.
