Region: Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits, Burgundy, France
Varietal: Pinot Noir
Tasting Notes: Expressive aromas of graphite, black cherry and blackberry, with a light vegetal element, Firm tannins packed with ripe dark fruit flavors, lingering beneath spice, and dried orchard crop accents. Drink now through 2025.
Pairing: This lighter bodied Pinot Noir is well suited to lighter pasta dishes utilizing mushrooms and spring greens. Salmon, trout, and rockfish in bright buttery sauces are a good choice too. As we come closer to Spring (fingers crossed!) keep this Fettuccine, Smoked Trout And Asparagus by Florence Fabricant in mind. You can easily substitute other seasonal green things for the Asparagus. Fresh peas, favas, additional herbs, and so on. Be sure to follow the recipe by using fresh Fettuccine!
About: The Gros family have been vignerons in the village of Vosne-Romanée since 1830. Domaine Michel Gros was created in 1995 when Jean Gros retired and divided the domaine amongst his three children. Michel inherited some magnificent parcels of vines and in 1997 the Ecard family entrusted Michel with the running of their 3.5 hectares in Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges. The Gros now has 18 hectares under vine - half in the Côtes de Nuits and half in the Hautes Côtes. They ensure that yields are kept low, everything is hand-picked and there is a rigorous sorting prior to total de-stemming. Michel’s son, Pierre, took over the running of the domaine in spring 2019 – but Michel continues to lend his wisdom and experience.
