From: Walla Walla Valley, Oregon, USA
Varietals: 92.5% Syrah, 7.5% Viognier
Tasting Notes: Deep purple-red hue with a complex bouquet of violets, licorice, damson plums, blackberry, grilled herbs, bacon fat, smoldering incense, and dark chocolate. Richly textured and lively on the palate with well-delineated notes of black plum, raspberry, truffles, nutmeg, licorice, white pepper, and stony minerality. Subtle hints of espresso, sage, and vanilla are also present. The long, persistent finish echoes tones of blackberry, truffles, and stony minerality. This wine satisfies the intellect as well as the palate. We recommend opening this bottle 2-3 hours before enjoying to decant if possible.
"The 2019 Delmas Syrah is one of the prettiest expressions of this wine that I have tasted. This very Burgundian style of Syrah saw 60% new French oak before bottling. The wine shows beautiful red florals with wet stone, Umami, and orange blossoms. The palate is exceedingly elegant with silky tannins and a light dusting of white pepper and salinity. Guava, pomegranate seed, and orange rind flavors combine with wet stone and rose water undertones. This is a beautiful foil to 2018, as this beautiful wine is lithe and full of life even at the two-year mark. Drink 2021-2031." –Owen Bargreen, 96 points
About. Born of unique geology found within The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater, as well as the climatic eccentricities of the Walla Walla Valley, Delmas is dedicated to producing exceptional wines of enduring value. Elegance is preferred to power and exoticism at Delmas; restraint, nuance, and those impossible-to-define, (pleasurable), qualities that elevate all great wines. Co-founder Mary Robertson’s French ancestry provides the namesake for Delmas. In a tradition dating back many generations, the name “Delmas” is passed from one daughter to the next. This legacy lives on through Steve and Mary’s daughter, Brooke Delmas Robertson. Brooke adds depth via her technical expertise and fresh perspective, having spent several years in Napa Valley gaining viticulture, winemaking, and vineyard development experience.
