From: Rhône Valley, France
Varietals: 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 10 Cinsault
Tasting Notes: Aromatic notes of lavender, cinnamon, dusted black cherries, and plums. Some bright acidity and slightly dusty tannins provide a nice structure on the palate.
“Warming notes of allspice and charred cardamom lend spice to flavors of blueberry and black-plum preserves in this plush blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 10% Cinsault. Silky in tannins and plummy on the palate, it's a softly treading, juicy sip best enjoyed now through 2023.” –Anna Lee C. Iijima, Wine Enthusiast, 89 points
Pairing: This full-bodied wine is a fantastic match for the bold flavors found in stews, braises, and barbecue.
The Lirac appellation stretches across the low hills alongside the right bank of the Rhône river, just across from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The history of Château de Montfaucon dates back to the 11th century when the castle's first tower was built as one of many fortresses used to guard the border between the French Kingdom and the Holy Roman German Empire at the time. The grapes that produced this wine were grown in very old terraced vineyards planted in soils made up of sand and rocky pebbles, and aged in the Château’s cellar from the 16th century.
