From: Southern-Rhone, France
Varietal: Syrah
Tasting Notes: Nestled in the shade of the Dentelles de Montmirail, this famous terroir made up of slopes and valleys offers rich, full-bodied, and powerful wines which ask for patience for tasters to appreciate the complexity of their bouquets. The Gigondas Vieux Clocher comes from vineyards on hillsides that benefit from exceptional sunshine. Its deep purple color offers a nose of stewed black fruit, which may seem closed in its youth, but after cellaring for a few years, will have acquired all its complexity, with its notes of undergrowth and spices. On the palate we find a dense and generous wine with elegant and racy tannins, developing an intense bouquet, which will only improve over time
Marc and Jean-Francois Arnoux are the newest generations to carry on their family’s long history at this traditional Domaine that sits next door to the old Vacqueyras church. The family’s history in Vacqueyras dates back to 1731 and vineyard holdings are now 41 hectares in total, with additional volume supplemented with growing partners who have supplied the family for decades. Always complex and interesting, Arnoux’s offerings consistently over-deliver for us, this is a producer we’ve been working with since our early days.
