From: Sicily, Italy
Varietal: Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio
Tasting Notes: Rustic, mineral, at times even herbal, but with a smooth and generous fruity core. This is the essence the Etna Rosso from Masseria Setteporte, produced with grapes from thirty-year-old vines which dig their roots deep into the volcanic soil of Mount Etna.
Tenuta Masseria Setteporte is situated on the south-west side of the Etna volcano, in the territory Biancavilla, within the Etna DOC area.
The viticulture of this side has a very ancient history and the Portale family has preserved the original characteristics for several generations. The modernization of the structures with the transformation of the ancient sapling into the espalier, a system that combines modern viticultural techniques with the vegetative-productive peculiarities of the nerello mascalese, is due to the initiative of the Notary Ferdinando Portale.
The turning point took place in 2002 when Piero Portale decided to continue the project started by his father, bringing the estate from 12 to 27 hectares, 16.5 hectares of which are vineyards.
The vineyards lie on terraces facing south at an altitude between 650 and 800 meters. The peculiarities of Tenuta Masseria Setteporte wine can be summarized in elegance and aromas combined with exceptional drinkability.
Masseria Setteporte is a certified organic winery.
