From: Beaujolais, France
Varietal: Gamay
The Régnié appellation of origin is a communal appellation recognized since 1988, the last born of the Beaujolais vintages. Its vineyard covers approximately 400 hectares spread over the communes of Régnié and Durette. Made up of black Gamay with white juice, as in all the Beaujolais vineyards, Régnié wine is exclusively red in color. The vines take advantage of arena soils made from pink granite rich in potassium feldspar. The rock, sometimes polphyroid, contains very diverse mineral elements. The sand is very present. The vinification of Régnié is done in whole bunches, which is specific to Beaujolais. After vatting for 8 to 10 days, depending on the vintage and the winegrower, and a first alcoholic fermentation, the grapes are pressed. Taffy juice and press juice are then assembled, then a second fermentation, malolactic, begins in order to soften the Régnié wines by removing their acidity.
Tasting Notes: The red color of Régnié wines oscillates between cherry and ruby. A subtle balance of red fruits, fresh and structured by fine tannins, Régnié comes from south-east facing vines. It is best enjoyed early and up to 5 years old. The Régnié wines from Maison Coquard, Domaine Dominique Piron and Château de Pizay are particularly appreciable.
Pairing: To be enjoyed with roasted red meats or in a sauce, small game, Burgundy cheeses ...
