From: Amarone della Valpolicella Classico, Italy
Varietals: Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara
L’Arco takes its name from Arco di Giove, a stone arch that resides within the historic districts of the classic Valpolicella zones. The arch is more than what meets the eye; it is a symbol of the Fedrigo family, whose farmhouse resided nearby. Luca Fedrigo focuses on keeping traditions alive in his Valpolicella wines while keeping things young at heart. He was fortunate enough during his teenage years to work under the Valpolicella master, Giuseppe Quintarelli, who in turn guided Luca’s current minimalist style. The wines go through a thoroughly classic aging process and meticulous blending, representing classic Valpolicella.
Amarone is one of the most sought-after wines in the world, and Luca’s Amarone is only made in extraordinary vintages. The meticulously selected grapes are dried for about 100 days, undergoing the appassimento process. The wine ages for at least four years before release, with three spent in barrels. It is not until the third year that Luca decides if the wine will be an Amarone or remain a Valpolicella. He recommends that this wine be opened at least eight hours before enjoying.
Pairing: Serve it at 18 C with stews and roasts, game, and seasoned cheeses.
