From: Burgundy, France
Varietal: Pinot Noir
Due to the purity of its air, the village of Volnay was apparently the favorite residence of the ladies at the court of the Duke of Burgundy. The other attraction was of course the charm of its wines. Volnay is located in the Côte de Beaune sub-region of Burgundy, renowned for making some of the smoothest, most delicate Pinot Noir wines of the southern Côte d'Or. It is located between Pommard (famous for its powerful reds) and Meursault (the home of rich whites).
Tasting Notes: A wine of great elegance with a vivid and bright ruby color. The wine has rich, complex aromas of wild berries, lilting rose petals, and underbrush, underscored by tertiary notes of ripe or candied fruit as well as savory mushroom and mild spices. On the palate, a pleasant sensation of roundness and velvety texture with a long, elegant finish and pleasant tannins.
Pairing: This wine works well andouillette (French sausage made with tripe or chitterlings), game birds, rabbit, risotto, or cheeses such as Camembert or Brie.
