From the producer:
Our winemaker Ángel Anocíbar likes to describe Selección Especial as a compendium of each new vintage in the Abadía Retuerta estate. And the recently released 2014 is one that he finds particularly satisfying.
2014 combined both quality and quantity with plentiful rain in the autumn so the plants were able to withstand a particularly dry summer. October was rainy but, thanks to the summer heat, grapes reached full maturity without having to wait for too long. Red grapes were brought to the bodega between 24 September and 6 October.
It is a blend of 70% Tempranillo, 17% Syrah and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine was aged for 11 months in 1,950 French and American oak barrels resulting in 390,000 standard bottles, 22,000 magnums and 1,800 double magnums.
Red Duero wine aficionados will find in this Abadía Retuerta Selección Especial 2014 the excellence that this area is capable of: intensity and structure with polished tannins, rich fruit and a profound expression given the excellent vintage conditions. Although we believe that it will reach its peak in three years’ time, its excellent texture makes it very easy to drink from this very moment. For the most adventurous palates, we recommend the following cocktail.
