Founded in 1731, Bouchard Père & Fils is one of Burgundy’s oldest wine merchants and one of the largest landowners in the Côte d’Or. Over the centuries, the House has been devoted to attaining highly renowned parcels to produce exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. With uncompromising quality standards, long-term grower partnerships, and aging in a state-of-the-art winery results in wines of outstanding consistency and the truest and finest expression of each terroir.
In the heart of the Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin is the area with the highest concentration of red Grand Crus of which some were favorites of Napoleon. It is even said that he made his men salute when passing these venerable vines. The wines of Gevrey-Chambertin, only reds, are quite sought after for their great strength and velvetiness.
Tasting Notes: "The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Village comes from 10.4 hectares of out-sourced grapes, their own team working the vineyards. It has a commendable raspberry and crushed strawberry bouquet that is straightforward and nicely delineated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red berry fruit, nicely judged acidity, and a harmonious, easy-drinking finish. Fine." –Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (February, 2014)
"(Bouchard vinifies 10.4 hectares of village vines in Gevrey, and does the vineyard work for just over half of this total; fermented with 30% whole clusters): Bright red-ruby. Complex aromas and flavors of medicinal black cherry, mocha, spices and earth. Sweet but restrained in the mouth, with lovely spicy, herbal lift energizing the mid-palate. Very good, solid village wine in the making." –Vinous, 88-90 points (January, 2014)
"Smells spicy, warm and generous, somehow comforting. Drier on the palate, more savoury and upright and darker fruited. Much less generous but there's harmony and balance." –Jancis Robinson, 16.5/20 (January, 2014)
"An unobtrusive application of oak surrounds the cool but ripe aromas of black raspberry, earth and violets. There is the same lovely sense of energy and detail to the medium-bodied flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the seductively textured, complex, balanced and impressively persistent finish. This is a fine villages and well worth considering." –Allen Meadows, Burghound (April, 2014)
