From: Horse Heaven Hills, Columbia Valley, Washington
Blend: 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, and 12% Syrah
Tasting Notes: Aromas of raspberry, black currant, and mocha lead into rich flavors of black cherry, huckleberry, and dark chocolate. Rich and fruit-forward, this juicy red blend pairs perfectly with BBQ ribs or grilled peach salad.
Pairing: This fruit-forward wine will complement the sweet, savory goodness of a pulled pork sandwich and your favorite coleslaw. This simple five-ingredient recipe by Emma Laperruque that was featured on Food52 is a great place to start. (If you’ve never tried Portuguese sweet bread dinner rolls, today is the day!)
About. This offering of a Cabernet-dominant blend marks a slight deviation from the Portlandia winery’s roots in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, as it was sourced from world-class vineyards in the Horse Heaven Hills of the Columbia Valley in Washington. However, it remains in keeping with the brand’s focus on making wines to be enjoyed and to enhance the everyday.
The 2020 vintage in the Columbia Valley was shaped by another cooler-than-usual growing season, beginning with a moderate spring that led to a later bud break. Temperatures throughout the summer remained temperate and mild. This allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and develop a great concentration of flavor, while maintaining bright, with a balanced acidity.
