From the winery. Our flagship wine; this Syrah started it all. From our first vintage in 2012 until our most recent, this wine continues to be a fan favorite. A medium-bodied wine with ripe blackberry and a thread of pepper on the finish.
Stillwater Creek, Novelty Hill’s estate vineyard, is best known for its innovative clonal selection, including both Entav and Rauscedo clones, as well as its careful vineyard management led by veteran viticulturist Ed Kelly. Located on the Royal Slope of the Columbia Valley’s Frenchman Hills, this 245-acre, south-facing site was recognized as one of the state’s top 20 vineyards in 2010 by Washington wine critic and author Paul Gregutt.
Planting began in 2000 following extensive consultation with top viticulturists who analyzed soils and historical weather patterns to determine optimal site design and clonal selection. The soil’s sandy to silty loam mixed with large amounts of tiny fractured basalt; its steep slope (22% in many parts of the vineyard); and average annual year heat units ranging from 2700+ - 3000+, make it an ideal location for growing premium grapes
In 2007, Stillwater Creek became the first Columbia Valley vineyard certified “Salmon Safe” for environmental practices that help protect water quality and habitat for wildlife and fish, particularly native Northwest salmon. The vineyard also grows grapes for a select group of Washington’s best vintners, including DeLille Cellars, Fidelitas and L’Ecole N° 41, among others.
