Envidia Cochina Albariño is a young white wine made by Eladio Piñeiro in the D.O. Rías Baixas (Galicia) with the Albariño variety.
Founder of Bodegas Mar de Frades before it became part of the Rías Baixas Denomination of Origin, Eladio Piñeiro is known in the sector as an entrepreneurial winemaker who innovates in both production and presentation. After leaving the winery due to his partner’s illness, years later he set up this new project making very limited productions with their own soul.
Envidia Cochina Albariño comes from unique terroirs located in the Salnés Valley (Pontevedra). These are vines aged over 30 years old planted on sandy loam soils and cultivated according to biodynamic principles and following lunar and cosmic cycles. When the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are harvested manually.
In the winery, the Envy Cochina Albariño grapes go through a selective process where they macerate for between eight and ten hours. Spontaneous fermentation then begins with native yeasts at a low temperature with prolonged aging on its own lees for 6 months. Finally, a coupage is made with 15% of the wine from the previous vintage.
Envidia Cochina Albariño is an Albariño made as it would have been in the past. A fresh, elegant and broad white wine from the past that is genuine through and through. The bottle label imitates a comic strip made with thermochromic ink. In other words, the colour will tell you whether the wine is at its best. Deliciously surprising!
