Marco Porello is the third generation of his family to produce wines in Roero. The family owns 15 hectares of vineyard land in total, all highly regarded locations in two of Roero’s twenty-three villages…the marine clay-based Mombirone in the village of Canale, and Tanone in Vezza d’Alba, which is a sandy, limestone-rich site. All of his wines are farmed naturally without the use of herbicides or pesticides, and Marco is working towards organic certification. Ca’ Gialla is the nickname of the house where Marco’s cellar is located.
Tasting Notes: Great for everyday drinking, strawberry and cherry aromas plus sturdy tannins and a core of minerality keep the wine fresh and fun. Excellent clarity in the glass with notes of dried rose petals and earth providing an elegant perfume. The perfect bottle to pop while waiting for your Barolo and Barbaresco to mature.
Pairing: This is a versatile bottle of wine that is easily paired with many Italian dishes. We thought a twist on the classic bolognese would be a perfect way to spice up a weeknight dinner. Rigatoni with White Bolognese by Heidi da Empoli, adapted by Amanda Hesser is made without tomato, a variation you don’t see often in the US, but is super savory and delightful in its own right.
