This Soave presents a delightful fusion of pear, apple, and a touch of citrus zest on the nose. Faint hints of acacia or broom blossom add a subtle floral dimension, while crushed stone notes provide a mineral backdrop that sustains itself across the palate. Citrus-pith and apple-skin flavors lift as the wine hits the palate, offering a tantalizing combination of bitter and tart flavors. The wine's texture is particularly noteworthy, adding another level of complexity to the wine that will take it deep into the future. This Soave is an interesting choice for those seeking a white wine with a unique interplay of fruit, floral, and mineral elements. Drink now–2040. — Jeff Porter
Pairing: This delicious white wine pairs well with various dishes and cuisines. For example, Soave is a natural pairing for seafood due to its refreshing acidity and lean profile. Dishes like clams and gnocchi, squid ink linguine, simple seared scallops, and lightly battered white fish all work well. Other effortless pairings include risotto, roasted poultry, Caesar salads with grilled chicken, fresh salads with citrusy dressings, or green herbs like tarragon or marjoram. Less spicy Thai, Chinese, and Indian cuisines also easily match versatile white wines like this one.
About the winery. The Adalia estate is in the lovely Valle di Mezzane in Verona and is owned and run by Marinella Camerani and her daughter Federica. Marinella built her reputation at Corte Sant’Alda, where her celebrated Amarones and Reciotos earned her the “Winemaker of the Year” accolade from Gambero Rosso in 2008. In 2009, she purchased a seven-acre parcel of pergola-trained vineyards on a limestone-rich hillside near Corte Sant’Alda, and Adalia was born. The estate is named for a type of ladybug (Adalia bipunctata) found in the vineyards that keeps the aphid population in check.
Federica leads the winemaking team. Her wines are made with native yeast and are bottled unfined and unfiltered. Stylistically, they share a freshness and a purity of expression, making them textbook examples of classic Veneto wines. Federica is currently overseeing the estate’s conversion to biodynamic production.
