The Masseria Setteporte winery has been run by the Portale family for generations and is located on the southwestern slope of the active Sicilian volcano, Mt. Etna, in the town of Biancavilla. Since the current owner and winemaker, Piero Portale, began his tenure in 2002, he has expanded the estate’s vineyard area from 12 to 27 hectares and succeeded in turning Masseria Setteporte into a certified organic winery.
Tasting Notes: Rustic, mineral, at times even herbal, but with a smooth and generous fruity core. This is the essence of the Etna Rosso from Masseria Setteporte, produced with grapes from thirty-year-old vines which dig their roots deep into the volcanic soil of Mount Etna.
Pairing: This wine would pair well with a broad range of flavorful foods, from spaghetti and meatballs to lasagna, pork sausages, or even tinned fish.
