Domaine Skourasis aGreekwine estate based inNemeaon the Peloponnese peninsula. It makes a range of wines based on theAgiorgitikogrape variety and a handful of more international varieties likeCabernet Sauvignon. It was founded in 1986 in Pyrgela near Argos by local man George Skouros; a new winery was opened in 2004 at Malendri.
The domaine comprises of vineyards in Nemea and in the non-PDO region of Argolida, although Skouras brings in grapes from carefully selected local growers as well. The winery itself is in Nemea, and provides a modern, state-of-the-art backdrop to Skouras' wine tourism.
The flagship wine is Megas Oenos, which combines Agiorgitiko from Nemea with a smaller amount of Cabernet Sauvignon from Corinthia and is aged in new Frenchbarriquesfor 18 months. Skouras also make a cuvée called Labyrinth blended from consecutive vintages of Megas Oenos as well as a range of other red wines that combine theBordeauxvarieties andSyrahwith Agiorgitiko. There are a few white wines in the portfolio, made fromChardonnayandViognieras well as some native varieties.
Tasting Notes: Soft color with a light shade of grey. Νose with high lift and complexity with aromas of roses, jasmine, lime, grapefruit and other citrus fruits. Of medium body with explosive acidity –full of taste and refreshing– with aromas of citrus flowers and tropical fruits.
Complex and medium-length aftertaste.Controlled alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel vats. Short aging over fine lees. Roses, jasmine, lime, explosive nose.
