From: Le Marche, Italy
Varietal: Lacrima
Lacrima is a fast-maturing grape variety common in the Marche, which is the easternmost region in the central belt of Italy. Unlike most red grape varietals that derive their color from their red grape skins, Lacrima grapes have red flesh in addition to their red skins. The name Lacrima, which translates as “tear”, is derived from the fragile skin of this grape, which upon maturity tends to burst producing violet colored tears. Not beeing a result of many clonal selections, this grape is very challenging to manage, both in the vineyards and also during the wine production. An ancient varietal with semi-aromatic qualities, cultivated exclusively within the countryside surrounding the medieval village of Morro d’Alba.
Tasting Notes: This sparkling rosé's color is reminiscent of rose petals with violet reflections, a soft mousse, and fine perlage. A bouquet of violets, wild roses, and golden apples leads to a fresh, dry palate with notes of black currants, clove, and baking spice.
Pairing: Serve this wine with fried or roasted fish, with starters, or as an aperitif.
