Tasting Notes & Critical Acclaim: 95 pts Bob Campbell Review Date: 06/2020
A traditional Australian red wine type, worthy of much admiration. Deeply-coloured, it has tons of appeal on the nose with plummy fruit aromas woven through with hints of mocha, subtle mint and minerally earth. It tastes smooth and succulent with the sort of perfect palate structure and depth that old vines provide. Ample tannins support a long, delicious aftertaste. (RKP)

More or less an even split and this has morphed into a harmonious wine. Expect dark sweet plums and cherries doused in cinnamon and star anise with some herbal tones. A savoury overlay, all earthy and ferrous with lovely, supple tannins. *Gold* (JF)

Deep, shimmering ruby. Pungent, spice-accented cherry and dark berry aromas; hints of woodsmoke, tobacco and vanilla build in the background. Lush and pliant in texture, offering appealingly sweet flavors of kirsch and black currant braced by a core of juicy acidity. A floral note builds through the long, subtly tannic finish, which shows fine detail and resonating spiciness. (JR)
Thomas Smith K&L Buyer Review Date: 06/2022
There isn’t a single wine at K&L that’s more Australian than this. Made entirely from Tahbilk's considerable old-vine plantings, it displays powerful aromas of blackberry, black cassis preserves, and complex spice box notes. Cab-Shiraz blends are a classic Aussie blend, marrying the dark structure of Cabernet with spice and mid-palate roundness of Shiraz. With a level of concentration that’s off the charts, this big, bold and ripe blend is one of Australia’s best.
Pairing: Enjoy the Tahbilk Old Vines Cabernet-Shiraz 2017 with hearty dishes such as grilled ribeye steak, veal porterhouse, roast goose, slow-cooked lamb shanks, or aged cheddar cheese. Its robust flavors and refined structure make it a versatile companion to rustic and refined cuisines (check out the twist on this below, inspired by thoughts of ribeye and bold flavors). Some other pairing ideas include serving this alongside homemade smash burgers, Shepard’s pie, beef pot pies, casseroles, braises, and roasted root vegetables.

About. Established in 1860, Tahbilk is the oldest family-owned winery and vineyard in Victoria, Australia. Tahbilk captures the hearts and minds of visitors to Nagambie as a beautiful and historic winery whose timeless appearance opens the imagination. Home to some of the oldest Shiraz vines in the world; half a hectare of un- grafted, pre-phylloxera original Estate planting known as the 1860 Vines. Tahbilk's flagship white wine is Marsanne; a rare single holding of the varietal produces a unique wine that is intended to cellar for 30-50 years. The winery and vineyard continue to be carbon neutral and produce a range of wines made with minimal touch and maximum flavor.
