Located in the town of Aghione, on the Costa Serena, the Vetriccie estate bought by the Barcelo family in 1966 expresses all the attributes of a premium Corsican wine. It spreads over 120 hectares (over 296 acres) in the heart of the appellation AOP Vin de Corse. The well-oriented soils are located between sea and mountain. The harmonious blend of continental and native varietals on this recognized terroir produces elegant wines with strong potential. Vetriccie, the Corsican wicker that grows near Domaine Vetriccie vineyards is a symbol of the unspoiled nature of the area.
Tasting Notes: There is a good clarity in the wine’s purple, ruby hue. The nose exhibits aromas of a local scrub called Maquis, black olives, and currants, underscored by hints of violet, licorice, and spices. Flavors of blackcurrant, flesh blackberry, maquis, and licorice persist on the palate of this fleshy, medium-bodied wine, leading to a spicy finish.
Pairing: In keeping with the Mediterranean climate of Corsica, we’d recommend drinking this wine with bold flavors of something like spaghetti with puttanesca sauce.
