A bit about Wednesday's tasting.
We'll be tasting the 2014 Barbera d'Alba ($21.95), the 2015 Langhe Nebbiolo ($21.85), the 2013 Barolo Albe ($43.95), and the 2016 Moscato d'Asti (375 ml $10.85).
It's a rarity for us to be able to showcase Barolo for a tasting, so don't miss it!
A little about the winery:
G.D. Vajra is located in Piedmont, which is situated in Northern Italy. The winery is located at the highest elevation in the commune of Barolo, in a village called Vergne. Aldo and Milena Vajra own vineyards in Bricco Dell Viole, Fossati, La Volta and Costa di Vergne. Some of their vineyards are at 1300 ft in elevation, and several were planted in 1947 by Aldo's father. The winery began in 1972 and released their first vintage in 1978. Today, their 3 children are active in the day to day running of the vineyards and winery.
Their wines are marked by their purity of fruit and clear expression of perfumes. The location of their vineyards lends to this feeling. Aldo Vajra also utilizes old school winemaking techniques like extended barrel aging for his Barolo's while implementing newer methods when cuvée or vintage dictates to produce wines of pure elegance. |

We are honored to have a representative of Vignobles Raguenot here in Seattle on Saturday to share their wines with you!
Emile Ninaud, the founder of Champion Wine Cellars, has been working with the Vignobles Raguenot for the past 20 years and we are thrilled to continue showcasing their wines here at Champion Wine Cellars in our new location in Greenwood.
Technical Information About Vignobles Raguenot:
Vignobles Raguenot is a family of independent winegrowers in Bordeaux who live to create passionate, meticulous wines. They own two properties in Bordeaux, the Château des Tourtes located in the Blaye, and Château Haut Beyzac located in the Haut Médoc.
Château des Tourtes sits on a silicious-clay soil with gravel subsoil in Saint-Caprais-de-Blaye. The property spreads over 64 hectares of land, with 15 hectares designated to white grape production: Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Muscadelle. Plantings of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Carménère make up the remainder of production.
Château Haut Beyzac rests in Vertheuil, on clay-limestone soil, covering 26 hectares of property. The vineyard hosts a dominant percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as Merlot and Petit Verdot. Château Haut Beyzac's wines are wines of subtlety, freshness, and complexity; that trend is apparent in all three of their cuvees. |
