French Fall Favorites Part 1 of 2, Wednesday evening from 5 pm to 7 pm.

French wine is great in any season really, but the falling leaves and cooling weather make our mouths water with the anticipation of tasting charming wines made from Gamay in Beaujolais, and the food pairing possibilities of the Southern Rhône wines rich in warm spice and welcoming perfumed fruit. On Wednesday evening, we'll taste through wine from small Grower Champagne, Beaujolais Villages, and lush red wines from Côtes-du-Rhône Villages and Lirac.

Outside of Bordeaux, our beloved founder and always hip Emile Ninaud's favorite wines were from Spain. He fell in love with the way Tempranillo or Tinto Fino (as the varietal is known locally) took to the aging process. The varietal thrives in Spain in such a way that its natural fruitiness and deep flavors allow for aging without muddying the wines complex nuances.

On Thursday evening, we'll be joined by a winery who has reached international acclaim for its wines hailed as "modern classics," here at Champion Wine Cellars. Please join us in welcoming Pablo Paredes to Seattle, and enjoying the fruits of their labor.

We'll continue with the tasting thread from Wednesday today, but whereas we featured wine from cooler regions in France on Wednesday, we'll move into more robust expressions of regions Saturday. We'll taste through Vacqueyras and Châteauneuf-du-Pape to name a few, and finish with wine you'll swear is new.
