Wednesday, September 13th, 2017. 5-7 pm. Wednesday is going to be fun! We have a lineup of super cool, small production wines from South America. They're all hand harvested, organic farmed, indigenous yeast fermented gems that are beautiful to drink and wallet friendly.
We'll taste high elevation Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir from Casablanca, boutique Malbec from Mendoza, and a funky, fun project from Argentina called Via Revolucionaria. This wine is where Bonarda leads the way here. The varietal is Argentina's second most widely planted varietal behind Malbec, with possible historical ties to Northern Italy's Dolcetto. Matias Michelini strives to make experimental wines that express terroir, and this wine is perfumed and funky with tons of fruit reigned in by firm tannins and bright acid. 100% Carbonic Maceration.
Last, but not least, we'll get a chance to try EGGO. It's from a single vineyard in the Gualtallary, and a blend of Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is fermented in and aged in the major concrete eggs, and sees no oak. EGGO is a serious terroir driven wine, which has beautiful dense, dark fruit and a strong mineral undertone that is stunning.

Friday, September 15th, 2017. 5:30-9 pm. We are honored to host and share a tasting of Domenico Clerico's wines at Champion Wine Cellars on Friday. Domenico Clerico's wines are always outstanding, and classic, and on Friday, we will have a representative of the winery here at Champion Cellars to share their story, and pour tastes for you from 5:30 pm to 9 pm.Crystal Edgar will be here to pour and talk about the wines from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Then, she has to run to catch a flight back to Italy, and we'll be pouring the last hour and a half of the evening.
Domenico Clerico passed away recently, and the entire wine world bowed their heads in respect. He was a champion of terroir, with an easy smile. Domenico was generous and loved by many. He was hard working and respected by his colleagues.
He came from a lineage of grape growers and considered himself a vine grower, even though he was a renowned winemaker. He was one of the first in the modernist movement in Piedmont, one of the Barolo Boys, who managed to operate in both worlds of modernism and tradition with precision and grace.
While embracing the Barrique, Domenico Clerico championed the virtues of terroir. He viewed winemaking techniques as mere tools of the trade, with the real soul of the wines in the quality of the vineyards. As such, he focused in on single vineyard bottlings to showcase the complexity of distinct sites.
He was most comfortable in his vineyards and was often found there. While his wines are renowned for both their winemaking of the highest quality, the terroir shines ultimately. The outstanding character of the wines comes from the vineyard holdings he owns in four of the greatest crus in Monforte: Ginestra, Bussia, Pajana, and Mosconi.
Join us to celebrate the wine and passion of Domenico Clerico, may his spirit of terroir ever be with us.

Saturday, September 16th, 2017. 11-5 pm.
Indie Wineries will be joining us again! Get ready for a lineup of rare wines that will intrigue your senses and stimulate your mind.
We'll taste a Pipeño País from Cacique Maravilla. Pipeño is a traditional method of winemaking in Chile, which takes its name from Pipas. Pipas are barrels made of Rault (redwood casks), and Chilean campesinos would keep these in the cellars of their own homes. They'd store the wine they made from their most recent harvests, then either drink the pipeño or take the Pipas to town to sell by the jug. These are the original old vine País to Chile from Spanish settlers, forgotten to the bulk market and rediscovered by French pioneers recognizing the value of the ancient vines. We'll also taste Austrian Petillant Natural by Fuchs und Hase, Croatian Plavac Mali from Andrović, Orange Wine from Rojac and a small project of Gamay wine from Omero out of Oregon!
